Details :- Attacked by a night-fighter which set the two starboard engines on fire, the Pilot instigated a steep corkscrew evasive manoever but due to the damage the aircraft went into a steep spin and exploded in the air. F/S C F White was blown out of the aircraft to become a P.o.W., the others in the crew were unable to escape. NP969 came down at Olvenstedt, 4 miles N.W. of Magdeburg.
Those
of the crew who died are now buried in the Berlin 1939 - 1945 War Cemetery after being initially buried in Olvenstedt, Germany.
